The Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Center for Weight and Health is affiliated with UC Berkeley's College of Natural Resources and the School of Public Health. The Center seeks to connect university faculty, researchers, and students with community partners to improve the health of children and their families in diverse settings, including schools, childcare, after-school programs, the workplace, and neighborhoods. With generous support from the Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Foundation and Mrs. Veronica Atkins, the Center engages in collaborative research and acts as a resource for policy makers, community practitioners, foundations, and government agencies.

Through community-based research and the synthesis of the most current scientific literature, the Center creates evidence-based guidelines to assist community organizations, school districts, policy makers, foundations, and government agencies in the development of program strategies that focus on obesity prevention and education, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The primary aim is to enact positive impacts on the overall diet quality of school children and also decrease obesity rates in vulnerable populations, who are often at the highest risk of obesity and obesity-related health issues.
